Dačice – town of cube sugar 

Dačice is a Czech town with 7 840 inhabitants (situation to 1/1/2007). The town’s altitude is about 500 m. It’s situated to the south of the town of Telč on the river Moravská Dyje, in the south most part of Bohemian and Moravian highlands. See map.

St. Laurence Church with Renaissance tower

The church belongs among dominating sights of to the town. St. LAURENCE CHURCH was built in late Baroque between years 1775–1788. 51 metres high RENAISSANCE TOWER, built between years 1586–1592, is visible from all directions. In summer months it is possible to take a look around the town and its the nearest surroundings from the tower.

Monument of sugar cube

The unique granite MONUMENT OF A SUGAR CUBE, which commemorates the revolutionary event of producing 1st cube sugar in the world in the local refinery in 1843, is situated bellow St. Laurence Church. We recommend you to visit Municipal Museum and Gallery in Dačice, where you can view permanent exhibition dedicated to production of Dačice´s sugar cube and to beet sugar factory in Kostelní Vydří.

 State-owned castle Dačice

STATE-OWNED CASTLE was built in the Renaissance style at the end of 16th century. Later it was rebuilt in the Baroque style and then in the Empire at the beginning of 19th century. The sight-seeing tour leads through representative halls with a portrait gallery, a big Empire staircase, residential rooms with Empire furniture and two halls of library. The castle is open from April to October. Next to the castle is an ENGLISH PARK, which is full of rare sorts of trees, bushes and plants and serves visitors for relaxation and rest. There is possible to buy souvenirs in form of gift-packing Cube sugar Juliana in Municipal Museum and in Gallery Dačice, in State-owned castle Dačice and in Tower of Dačice.

Regions of Dačice, Slavonice and Telč are a sought-after tourist destination – they offer ideal conditions for cycling and hiking. The intact landscape of the Czech Canada is very attractive with its possibility of trips to bordering Austria. The location of Dačice in the centre of these interesting places is ideal for accommodation and for making trips in the surroundings. The towns of Telč and Slavonice are only thirteen kilometres away and are connected with Dačice by railway with the possibility of transport of bicycles.
